For basic information about reverse mortgages click on http://www.hud.gov/offices/hsg/sfh/hecm/rmtopten.cfm to get "Top Ten Things to Know if You're Interested in a Reverse Mortgage" from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Hud's Federal Housing Adminstration (FHA) developed and regulates the most common program used today, the HECM (Home Equity Conversion Mortgage).
